Also car experts are betting on more powerful 2.9-liter diesel and a 3.2-liter petrol engine that pumps out 217 BHP and 310 NM of power and torque respectively.Mahindra Ssangyong Rexton will face tough competition from Ford Endeavour, Mitsubishi Pajero and Toyota Fortuner in Indian market.Expected to be launched by second quarter of 2012, this powerful machine will be mated to a 5-speed automatic gearbox.
Ssangyong Rexton is a seven seater full grown SUV that is soon going to come to Indian shores. Mahindra showcased the Rexton along with a crossover, Korando, developed in association with South Korean firm Ssangyong Motors, at Auto Expo, 2012. M&M will display its Korean subsidiary’s vehicles for the first time in India. Rexton will be a Sports Utility Vehicle for those who value boulder and rough driving.

The former business tycoon acquired Ssangyong a year ago. In November, 2010, Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) had signed a definitive agreement with Ssangyong Motor Company (SYMC) to acquire 70 per cent stake in the ailing South Korean auto maker at a total cost of USD 463 million (about Rs 2,105 crore).  Mahindra & Mahindra also has utility vehicles namely XUV 500, Scorpio, Bolero and Xylo MPV in India. The car's design was styled by Giorgietto Giugiaro’s Italdesign studio. The Ssangyong Rexton I was produced from 2001 to 2006. The Rexton II was released in 2006 as a replacement for the original Rexton and in the beginning of 2010; Ssangyong unveiled the upgraded 2010 Rexton or Rexton III. India will get the Rexton III.

An off-roader by nature, the Rexton will be powered by a massive 2.7-litre direct-injected common rail diesel engine. This strong and muscular engine with its 5-cylinders will pull out 162bhp of power and 402Nm of torque. The power machine will be a turbocharged diesel motor and will be mated to a five-speed automatic gearbox. Even a 5-speed manual gearbox will be available as option. Both four wheel and two wheel drive versions are well anticipated with Ssangyong’s SUV. The Rexton is famous in all markets for its car-like handling, decent ground clearance and impressive traction control.

Tough Rexton will be taken out of its cocoon in the grand event in New Delhi; the seven-seater SUV is expected to hit our roads in the third quarter of 2012. The SUV will be placed in luxury segment well above Mahindra XUV 500. Both of them will cater to different audience in India. Rexton will definitely come out as a world class product from Mahindra’s stable.  It is said that the Rexton is the combination of all of Ssangyong’s off road knowledge and experience and offers one robust package, providing class leading all-weather and all-terrain transport capabilities.

It uses a body-on-frame chassis and the suspension is all-independent with double wishbones up front and a multi-link setup at the rear.  Rexton has quite imposing dimensions. It adorns alloy wheels, muscular fenders, tough looking hood, body color ORVMs, side steps, roof rails, chrome tipped exhaust  and rear spoiler. Interiors of Rexton are completed with three rows of seats. Interior comfort features like cruise control, AC with Climate Control, Power windows, AC ducts for rear seats with separate controls, auto wipers with rain sensors, headlamp leveling device, rear window demister, steering mounted controls, rear cargo 12V outlet with front passenger 12 V outlet.

Mahindra’s new SUV Rexton will be loaded with safety features like Tyre Pressure Monitoring System, Enhanced Parking Brake Technology, Forward Collision Warning and Avoidance System, ABS with EBD, ESP and SRS airbags as standard equipment.
